What backing for the Jean quilt ? My grandson is in college and would love this !!!!!
How about his school colors fabric ?

  • Linda

I will sometimes use 100% cotton upholstery fabric in a coordinating color/print which has a heavy weave like denim when piecing jeans quilt. I machine wash and dry the upholstery fabric first so it has shrunk. But beware unraveling edges.

Do you use batt and backing with these quilts? Don’t they get heavy?

what type of thread and size of needle would you put on your machine to get the best results with a jean quilt?

Try a 70/10 – 110/18 needle size and a heavy or extra heavy thread. You can find denim thread, too.

I always cut the flat fell seams out first. If you are making totes or want to add ties and a handle for carrying your picnic quilt they are perfect. You can also braid them for a more substantial handle and they look and work very well.

Great suggestions, Tina. Thanks for sharing!!
