much work, but I’ve got a really easy way for you to do it, so let’s go over to the table. I’m going to put this over here so you can see it. The Drunkard’s Path is one of those blocks that has a little set in piece on the corner. This is a normal Drunkard’s Path ruler. You cut 2 pieces, you stitch them together, makes a pretty complicated block, but not for us at the Missouri Star Quilt Company. We’ve got some fun for you.
Here’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to cut out a circle, and we’re going to use the circle cut ruler. I’ve got one cut right here. Remember what you do with the circle cut ruler is you fold you’re fabric in half, you’re going to lay it on the fold line, and then you’re going to cut out that circle just like
that. So I’ve got a circle here and what I did was I put that circle on one ten inch layer cake.
So I found the middle on both squares, and then we stitch down this edge right here with a blanket stitch. Then what you do to make your Drunkard’s Path because right now it just looks like a circle in a square. What
we do is cut them in fours. Take a look at these. If that isn’t Drunkard Pathy, I don’t know what is. Look at that. How fun is that? We’re using this charm path called spirographics from Benartex. Isn’t this gorgeous?
So I’m trying to put it together, and what I did for my designs is I went into Google and I typed in “Drunkard’s Path images”. On those I found all kinds of really cool ways to lay it out, awesome designs and things like that. So as I’m trying to lay this out and I’m doing it, which is exactly how I did this one, I am doing lights and darks putting together, and then went ahead and cut them into fours, and it makes a beautiful Drunkard’s Path. But I discovered in some of the designs that you have to have (this black has to trade places) so I discovered on some of them that the printed fabric will be out here and
the black will be in the center. I woke up this morning with this huge epiphany.
So here’s what we’re going to do. This is the easy, quick Drunkard’s Path, one circle in the middle of the square, you just cut them up, makes all kinds of adorable blocks, and you can put together a quilt like this.
If you want a quilt that does different designs, it’s just a different way of designing it, here’s what we’re going to do. We’ve taken two layer cakes, and this happens to be central park layer cake. You can see that we’ve cut out the circle on one and put it on a layer cake, and we’ve cut out the outside on the other. When you cut this on the 6 inch circle, it gives you enough so that you have an edge and enough of a circle, and then what we’re going to do is we’re going to lay these together just like this. Make sure they are lined up very close. You can do this one at a time, or you can do them together like this, if you are really careful you can do them together.
I’m going to grab my ruler, and we’re going to come in 5 inches because this is a 10 inch block, it’s just a regular layer cake, and we’re going to go ahead and cut this in half, and this will give us the look of the double Drunkard’s Path, where some of the fabric is on the outside and some of the fabric is on the inside. I am so excited about this, and I can hardly wait to put this together as a quilt. I think this is a huge breakthrough for people who want to do something that just looks like a lot of work but it surely isn’t.
Alright, so we get those lined up very carefully. It’s probably easier to go ahead and cut these as singles. Then, look what we have. We have our first block this way, and our second block this way, and we’ve made a true Drunkard’s Path. How awesome is this! Look at this! So now when you put these together, you mix them all up so when you put them together, this one is going to go like this, you’re going to have ones like this, you’ll be able to turn them and mix them and snake them so that they have the ins
and outs of patterns. This is so awesome, I can hardly wait to get one of these quilts together.
We hopeyou enjoyed this tutorial on the amazing new quick and easy Drunkard’s Path from the Missouri Star Quilt Company.
