Hi everybody. I'm Natalie with Missouri Star Quilt Company and today on Embroidery 101, we're going to learn the twisted chain stitch. Now, this is a great stitch for outlines. It's great for vines and [music] any kind of um of line that you want to make. You can do words with it. You can, [music] I don't know, outline all kinds of shapes. It's very cool. It looks pretty and it's pretty easy to do. So, let [music] me show you. All right. So, I've got a nice thick strand of thread. This is all six strands cuz I wanted to show it. I like how this looks with um a [music] chunkier thread. [snorts] So, you're just going to start on one end. You're going to make a [music] stitch. So, you pull it through from the back first. Then you go down right next to where your stitch came out. Put your needle through. And then you're going to wrap this around your needle so it makes a little loop and then push that through. And [music] that is the twisted chain. So you continue to go in right next to where your [music] needle just came out. Push your needle through. And while the needle is in the fabric, twist the thread around it and push it through. So it makes this really beautiful twisty, [music] pretty straight stitch. Remember to twist it around the needle before you pull your needle through. It's easy to get a little [music] bit ahead of yourself on this one, but push the needle through and twist it around. So, [music] let's take it over to the um to the stand so I can show it to you a little bit closer up. So, we're going to put our needle back in right next to the last stitch where it came out. Make a cute short [music] little stitch. We are going to wrap this around the needle making a little figure eight. Pull that through. Oops. Try not to get it caught on your big. There we go. Then you go back [music] down in wrapping it around to create the little figure eight. Pushing it [music] through. It really takes that straight stitch [music] and makes it look very fancy like you worked really hard. And it's actually super simple and fun to do. I enjoy it. [music] I think it looks great on um stems, especially when you're doing leaves and flowers. I like it on a stem. Just keep wrapping it around your needle and pushing that [music] needle through. It's one [music] where as you go along, it doesn't matter uh which way you twist your [music] thread, but I would try to be consistent and do it the same throughout the entire chain. There we go. Otherwise, your twists will not look [music] consistent. All right. Right. Well, I have a little um a little tea towel that I worked [music] on that has this in the vine and I would love to show that to you. All right. So, this little tea towel uses the twisted chain stitch on these leaf stems [music] and I just think it turned out very pretty. It looks fancy and um and elegant. It adds a lot of texture. All right. [music] So you'll see the chain stitch here on this leaf and also on this side here. [music] It's also on these little ones, but not too much cuz they're short. But here and [music] here. Hope that helps. Hope you love it. If you enjoyed this video, there's lots more where that came [music] from. I have a whole channel called Embroidery 101 where I teach you what you need to know to get started and also give you tons of tips and ideas to refresh your memory and help you to advance in your embroidery journey.
