Materials:
-Fabric in various colors
-Paper templates in the desired shapes (such as hexagons, diamonds, or triangles)
-Sewing thread
-Sewing needle
-Fabric scissors
-Basting glue or pins
Instructions:
Cut out the paper templates in the desired shapes. You can either purchase pre-made templates or make your own using a template plastic or cardboard.
Cut out fabric pieces that are slightly larger than the paper templates. You can use a rotary cutter and ruler or fabric scissors.
Place a paper template on the wrong side of a fabric piece, and fold the fabric over the edge of the paper. Use basting glue or pins to hold the fabric in place.
Sew a running stitch through the folded edge of the fabric, going through the paper template as well. Make sure the stitches are small and even, and that they go through all layers of fabric and paper.
Continue sewing around the edges of the template until all sides are sewn. Tie a knot in the thread to secure it.
Repeat steps 3-5 with the remaining templates and fabric pieces.
Once all of the templates are sewn, remove the basting glue or pins and gently remove the paper templates from the fabric.
Arrange the fabric pieces into a desired pattern, such as a flower or star shape, and sew them together by hand using a whip stitch.
Once all of the pieces are sewn together, press the seams open.
Trim the edges of the quilt top to the desired size.
Now you have an English Paper Pieced quilt top that you can use in your quilt design! EPP is a time-consuming technique but produces precise and beautiful results, and it can be used to create a variety of shapes and designs.
