Choose your fabric: Starching is best done with natural fibers such as cotton or linen, as they tend to hold starch well.
Pre-wash fabric: It's important to pre-wash your fabric before starching it. You want to be sure that if your fabric is going to shrink or bleed you get that out of the way ahead of time!
Spray fabric: Gently spray fabric in a well ventilated area. It's not necessary to drench the fabric, but give it a good misting.
Dry fabric: Hang the fabric up to dry or lay it flat on a clean surface. You can also iron the fabric while it is still damp to help it dry and set the starch. You'll just want to avoid using steam.
It's important to note that starched fabric can be stiffer and more difficult to work with than untreated fabric, so it's important to test a small piece of fabric first to ensure that the level of stiffness is right for your project.
