The Prairie Patch quilt block is a traditional quilt block pattern that consists of a central square surrounded by four smaller squares, each of which is divided diagonally to create four smaller triangles. The resulting design creates a pinwheel or windmill effect when multiple blocks are sewn together. The block is named after the prairie regions of the United States, where the windmill was a common sight on farms.
