today's project will be tugging at your heartstrings we're going to make this heartstrings baby quilt [Music] so like I said we're going to make this great little baby quilt that you see behind me and it is so simple you're going to need one package of jelly rolls and we are using the Kona wild berry palette and then you also will probably want a package of background strips because this entire quilt is based on the two and a half inch strip you could totally make this out of your stash you're just going to need to cut it down to two and a half inch strips so if you wanted to do that you know more power to you let me show you how quick this comes together this essentially is you know two halves you have one strip down the middle that is unique and then the opposite halves are the same so I'm gonna walk you through that we're going to begin by making our center strip and so I have that here and the top background strip I have cut to two and a half by fifteen and a half and then I have one of our print or you know wild berry palette colors that is 32 and a half and then my bottom piece is three and a half inches so we are just going to sew these together with a quarter inch seam allowance on that end and then flip it around and this three and a half inch piece goes on the other side and we can press these back with this project it is helpful if you have a design area or somewhere to lay this out because I'm just going to add one strip after the other to my wall so you can see how this goes together so this is the very center strip and it's going to set in just like so and now we're going to start building out our heart the other direction so let's go ahead and do that so our next piece I remember you'll have basically two of this measurement because you're working out from this the middle now so the top piece is 13 and a half our Center is still that 32 and a half inch measurement so we will sew these together so we can flip this around and we'll now add this five and a half inch piece on the other end and you'll notice that your middle strip stays that 32 and a half all the way from here to here in the quilt and then the background pieces stagger by two inch increments to get kind of the movement that you're getting and then those outer strip sizes will change and I'll tell you those as we go along so here is our next one and I am just going to work through a few more of these and I'll meet you back here all right so like I mentioned I went ahead and sewed all of those that have our print strips at 32 and a half with the Staggering background strip so you can see those are on the design wall and they're stairs stepping up and so now our print strip is going to change size so the next strip it measures 28 and a half and the top background is five and a half the bottom is 17 and a half so we can put this one in next I have it sewn and you can see now we're going to start stair stepping both directions and so we're going to get the curve of that Heart by allowing that to happen and so I'm going to add the next few as well this one our top measures seven and a half our print is 24 and a half and the bottom is 19 and a half than this one here our top is nine and a half print is 20 and a half and background is 21 and a half on the bottom and our the second to last one eleven and a half on top 16 and a half for print and 23 and a half on the bottom so let's go ahead and sew the very last one just to make it nice and clear for you so the top background strip is going to be 13 and a half our print is going to be 12 and a half so I'm going to go ahead and sew these together there you go and then we will add our 25 and a half inch background strip to the bottom you can go ahead and give this a press I do like to roll these so that the seams are behind the print not on our White there we go and so now I'm going to take this and add it to the design wall and then our heart will be finished so here's the last little section make sure that's lining up and then all I did on either end is finish this out with a background strip that measures 50 and a half inches so you do have to seam that so you're just going to sew all of those together one by one until you have this great little finished baby quilt that you see behind me it measures 50 inches Square we quilted it here at Missouri Star with the hearts and Loops pattern which is just perfect and then we even use some leftover strips from our roll to do this Scrappy binding that you see around the edge so I hope you enjoyed this tutorial on the heartstrings quilt and I'll see you next time on at home hey everyone it's Misty thanks for watching at home if you aren't already a part of our Missouri Star Family be sure to subscribe and hit the Bell if you want a notification every time we release a new video I'll see you next Monday on the newest episode of at home
