Misty starts with the stripe section in the middle of the runner, using her red and white stripes that are 2.5" wide and 11.5" long. There are 13 stripes, in a nod to the original colonies!
Once you have 13 strips, you're going to sew them together using 1/4" seam. To make it easy start in sets of 2, and press as you go. (Press those seams towards the red!)
A tip from Jenny: Put the simple parts in the middle of the table runner (where you'll place your centerpiece or flowers) and the "ooh ahh" at the outer edges where everyone can see it.
Next Misty assembles her star blocks. Once she cuts her fabric to the correct sizes, she's going to be doing some snowballing to create the star points. Make sure you're sewing in opposite directions to create the diagonals. Misty chain pieces here to make things faster.
Trim and press your corners, rolling them back. Now you'll add them to the background squares, creating your star points in four quadrants. Press towards the dark blue, and then sew your four patch together creating your star block! Nest your seams and match up the points.
Next Misty adds her star blocks to either end of your center strip set. Now you're ready for borders and quilting!
