Did you know it's America's 250th birthday? America is turning 250 just in time to make this precious patriotic apron. Super good for Memorial Day, July 4th. Amazing thing for you to sew for your husband, your brother, your son. Let's go make it. [music] This apron came from Missouri Star Quilt Company. They sent a bunch of blanks. They sent uh there's a couple of pennants, a pillow cover, this apron, and I chose this apron for the flag to go on because I thought this would be great for all the guys in your family. And who doesn't need an apron for the Fourth of July, Memorial Day, whatever you're cooking out for. So, this template is available at Missouri Starquil Company.com under their free pattern section. It's also linked in the description of this video. This is a great scrap buster. you've got little pieces, pieces that are too big to throw away, but too small to do anything with. These are great for that. So, I got the template. I got the template. I cut out my pieces. And now, we're ready to sew them on. Now, I'm going to sew them on based on the color of fabric that I'm sewing. So, for instance, this red, I'm going to use a red. And they sent me Missouri Star Quilt Company sent me this starter box. It's a cot cotton thread stash builder, and it's got a bunch of snazzy colors. So, the first thing we're going to do is pick out all the reds and the blues. And I'm going to show you what I'm using. And then we're going to talk about why. No reds or blues in there. So, when I tell you to match the color of your thread with the color of your fabric for your applique, I don't mean go out and buy 12 shades of orange. I mean, buy two shades or three at most, light, medium, and dark, because almost any red would go with this. I could use this. And I think there's another red, but this may be what I'm using. Let's look and see. And I Okay, this is the red that's in my stash builder. So, it's what we're using now. It's really kind of a maroon color, but do you see when I put it next to there? I just want something that blends. It doesn't have to be exactly the same color. So, don't drive yourself crazy trying to find the exact color of thread. I'm going to use that this as my red and this as my blue. Now, I'm going to put these away. We're going to sew these on just with a straight stitch. And that's going to make it a raw edge applique. If you don't want it to be a raw edge, then just zigzag it. That'll take care of it. Or if you wanted it to look like it was made from a cutter quilt, you know, we all love those projects. Like this right here, just put some flannel behind it. It gives it a little bit of lift and it's three-dimensional. It makes it look really beautiful. For this one, we're just going to use just our fabrics on top of our apron. Now, I could do this exact same thing and I could make it no sew. What do you mean by that, Tammy? Okay, let me show you. There's this snazzy stuff. It's called So Light Fusible Adhesive. So, it's rough on one side. You take your fabric, you iron it to the rough side. The rough side is the glue side. Iron it to that side and then turn it over and the back peels off. And then you have glue. It's like a sticker. The back peeled off. So now this is sticky. You put it down and you iron it on. And then you have this without sewing a stitch. So if you want to make something but you're not super confident, make it no sew. Very easy. But when you're doing this fusible adhesive, make sure that you're getting the sew on kind. If you get the thicker kind that's not sewing friendly, the glue will go up your needle. It is not your best life. I promise. So, now we're going to thread our machine and sew our flag on our apron. So, we've threaded our machine. We're going to put our applique underneath our machine. Now, I'm going to follow the edge of my fabric with the edge of my presser foot. And I'm going to go all the way around. I'm going to back stitch when I start and when I stop because my grandma said so. I've sewn my heart. Now I'm going to change my thread to red and I'm going to sew all the rest of these. And I'm going to do this the same way. I'm going to follow the edge of my fabric with the edge of my presser foot. Back stitching when I start and when I stop. And I'm just going to go around all four of these pieces. And that's it. You have officially made the cutest apron ever. Okay, cut off all of your threads. If you cut your threads off, it makes you look like you know what you're doing. If you have threads hanging from something, it's a dead giveaway that you don't know what you're doing. So, cut your threads off. That puts you like one step closer to looking professional, even if it looks a hot wreck. And trust me, lots of my stuff does. But look how cute this is. You've just created the cutest July 4th apron. This template set is available at Missouri Star Quilt Company under their free printables. It's also linked in the description of this video. My name is Tammy. I'm your favorite sewing teacher. Okay, I know. Second favorite sewing teacher. And I would love for you to come sew with me.
