1. Start by cutting your fabric into 6" x width of fabric strips.
2. Make sub-cutting these block easy with a 6" x 6" square ruler.
3. Use a vacuum to get rid of all the fuzzies once you've cut your fabric - it will keep your work space and your machine free of lint!
4. Make sure you check the nap of your squares so they all run in the same direction.
5. Use clips instead of pins to secure thicker fabrics before sewing - a bonus is you won't poke yourself with your pins.
6. Place your blocks in stacks to sew them into the correct number of rows!
7. Connect your rows together with clips, taking care to align and nest your seams.
8. Add a layer of batting when quilting if you would like, but Jessica skips it this time. Otherwise take your backing and lay it out on a large flat space and ensure the backing fabric is larger than your checkerboard top. Center the top, and pin into place securely. Roll the quilt and take it to the machine to sew!
9. Quilt your blanket however you wish. Jessica uses to quilt her squares using stitch in the ditch.
10. Once the quilting is complete, it's time to trim the backing fabric down to size (1/2" around the edges). Clip the corner and sew both sides together to create mitered pockets.
11. Now clip your binding around the edges and clip in place. Sew and your blanket is finished!
