Tracy Hansen from Tracy’s Bits N Pieces lives in middle Tennessee with her husband and three grown boys. Now that her boys are grown, she spends most of her time creating, teaching classes at her local quilt shop, and giving presentations at guilds and quilt groups. Tracy's love for quilting started when she made her first quilt at 18 years old. She had no experience and no idea what to do, but just started cutting up some fabric. She continued learning and playing through college, teaching elementary school, and raising her three boys. Tracy now spends time almost every single day sewing or planning her next quilt!

Hi everybody. It's Tracy from Tracy's Bits and Pieces and today we're celebrating Christmas in July with a fun project placemats. I'm going to show you how to make these super cute and easy place mats. Now, I am using this really fun Grinch Christmas fabric. And as you can see, I'm using lots of Christmas themed blocks. But the great thing about this project is you can use any 12 and 1/2 inch block. Maybe you have some orphan blocks hanging around, leftovers from last year or another project, some panel pieces, or even a really cute large fabric you just don't want to cut up too much. So, what we're going to do is learn how to use or start with that 12 and 1/2 inch block and end up with this really cute placemat. So hang on and let me show you everything you're going to need to make this placemat. You're going to need one 12 and 1/2 in square, two 3 and 1/2 by 12 and 1/2 in strips for the borders, a fat quarter for your backing, and two 2 and 1/2 by width of fabric strips for your binding. You're also going to need a scrap piece of batting. Once you've sewn your two border pieces onto your 12 and 1/2 in square, you're going to layer that with your batting and your backing just like you would any other quilt. Now, you can quilt however you like. Since it's a placemat, I like mine to be nice and stiff. So, I do a lot of quilting on mine. Once it's quilted, you're going to give it a quick trim. And then you're just going to bind it the way you would your normal quilts. Tada. That's it. You guys, that's all it takes to turn a 12 and 1/2 in block into a super cute placemat. Now, I can't wait to see what you guys come up with. Don't forget to share your projects with me so I can cheer you on. You guys have fun. [music] [bell] [bell]
