What You Will Need:

Fabric (in a variety of colors and prints)
Rotary cutter
Cutting mat
Quilting ruler
Sewing machine
Thread
Iron
Ironing board
Step 1: Cutting the Fabric
Using your rotary cutter, cutting mat, and quilting ruler, cut your fabric into the following sizes:

(4) 3.5 inch squares of fabric A
(4) 3.5 inch squares of fabric B
(8) 2.5 inch squares of fabric C
Step 2: Sewing the Squares
Take one of your fabric C squares and place it on top of one of your fabric A squares, right sides together. Sew along one side of the square using a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Repeat with another fabric C square on the opposite side of the fabric A square. Press the seams towards the fabric C squares. Repeat with the remaining fabric A squares and fabric B squares.

Step 3: Creating Half Square Triangles
Place one of your fabric A/C units right sides together with one of your fabric B/C units. Sew along one side using a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Repeat with the other side of the square. Cut the square diagonally from corner to corner to create two half square triangle units. Press the seams towards the darker fabric.

Step 4: Assembling the Block
Lay out your half square triangle units in a four patch formation. Sew the units together using a 1/4 inch seam allowance, pressing the seams in one direction.

Step 5: Finishing the Block
Trim your block to 6.5 inches square, and press it one final time. Congratulations, you've completed Block #2 of Erica Arndt's beginner quilt series!
