A few tips from Erica:

1. Try chain piecing! That is sew your seams at one time, one after the other without breaking your thread. You can cut apart the individual units at the end and it will save you a bit of time.
2. For your half square triangles, press your fabric all the same direction - towards the darker side.
3. Be sure to trim your half square triangles to the correct size to keep things precise!
4. Next you'll assemble your flying geese units. Either trace your line or use your diagonal seam tape, but you'll want to sew a scant quarter inch (just a hair to the underside).
5. Press the corners of the flying geese first, and then trim excess fabric.
6. If you want to press your seams open, you'll want to use a shorter stitch to keep them sturdy!
7. Be sure to trim your flying geese units to make sure your final block is accurate!
8. To make your seams less bulky (particularly in the 9 patch) press your seams towards the dark fabric, and nest your seams when you're sewing the block together.
9. Another technique that Erica uses is spinning her seams, pulling the corners open so you're opening the fabric up and creating a little four patch of fabric on the back (at the seam). You can use this technique any time you have four points coming together at once.
10. When you sew the entire block together, press each row so that you can nest your seams again and reduce bulk.
