Embroidery 101 we are going to go over the fly stitch. It's a fun stitch that
works great in all kinds of things. It looks like it might just be a straight stitch, but it's a little bit trickier than that and it turns out really cute.
So what we're going to do, is we're going to have a knot in our thread. We're going to come up on the side. So what we're making essentially are like little V's. Or you can make them more curvy by leaving your thread a little bit looser. And you're going to go up on one side and then across creating sort of a little loop. Then your needle comes up where you want that to end. You're going to catch the loop, pulling it down to create that V.
So you can see how if I leave it loose, it can be curvy. And if I pull it tight, it makes a nice snug V. All right, so let's show this one just a little bit closer.
We're going to come up here on this point where we want our little flying V to be. We'll go back down on the other side, pull it kind of tight because you don't need a lot of stretch to make it end where we want it. Our next stitch comes up at the point of the last V that we've made, so you can slide your needle around and make sure it's in the right spot. And I kind of want them to line up so it's a straight line. Then I'm going to come forward and grab that loop, and I want to make sure that I've pulled my thread nice and tight. I've got some extra thread on the back, that's why I'm pulling that through. Okay, there we go, just make that all work.
Sometimes embroidery gets a little fidgety. But now I'm going to I'm going
to put my anchoring stitch right here at this point. If you can see that, that's where we're going to go in and when you pull it tight it should line right up how you want it.
All right, so the cute little project that I have to show you is this little bucket hat and it is adorable! It has all of these little daisy flowers. The fly stitch is what makes up all the stems and the leaves. You can see they're just single strands of thread. It looks really great and fun - it's easy to do!
