hey everyone I have a really fun guest pattern for you today we're going to make this flower love quilt designed by So Mariana and it's absolutely beautiful [Music] [Music] i want to begin by telling Mariana thank you so much for letting me share her wonderful pattern so be sure to pick up a copy of the Flower Love pattern and we are going to be making the throw size today and so on the back it tells you everything you need the only change that I made is for the stars it calls for nine fat eights i just opted to go with three solid fabrics so if you get a half yard of each of those that's going to be more than enough then you're going to need nine fat quarters for your petals and your hearts so that's this right here and then an additional nine for the outside portion of your blocks and so I went ahead and divvied mine up because I wanted to have an idea of how the colors were going to play together and so this fabric that I used is called Full Bloom by Heather Bailey for Figo Fabrics and I just absolutely love it and so you can see I kind of made a set of here's what I'm going to use for my block background here's what I'm going to use for my petals and here's what I'm going to use as the accent and so I did that with each of my accent fabrics and I think it turned out really fun and so then in addition to that you're going to need some sashing and border fabric and I just used this cream to really let those blocks be the star and so you need 1 and 1/4 yards of that for your binding I use this stripe you'll need 5/8 of a yard and 4 and 1 eigh yards of your backing so this is the block that we're going to be making today and for the throw size you're going to have nine of these large blocks and so let's go ahead and get started we're going to begin with the heart in the middle and so one thing to point out is you're going to get a heart and petals out of each of those fat quarters that you select so you might notice on the quilt behind me here's our little purple heart and here are the petals that match and so you kind of flip-flop those so you get some variety within the block but it all comes from the same fat quarter and so here are our pieces for our little heart and so to begin with I am going to snowball the top by sewing point to point here you can draw the line or press the line i am just going to use my diagonal seam tape so I'll start by putting my needle right on this point and the other side lined up with the red line of my seam tape there we go and so then we can use our ruler and cut off our excess leaving our quarter inch seam allowance and then we will press this one back and then we can use our other little square here to now snowball the other side in the opposite direction and so that's going to give us the points for the top of our heart so you're going to have two rectangles like this that you will snowball the tops in the exact same way beautiful then I will trim this one off as well and we'll press this back now the last step to make our heart is to add this larger square to the bottom to snowball and you're going to do that in opposite directions one in one way and one in the other you can see I have half of my heart done so it's going this way which means I want this one to go like this so when I press it back our heart will be complete so I'm going to go ahead and sew this direction here beautiful and we'll trim that off one more time and our little half of a heart will be complete press that back beautiful and now when those two come together you will have your adorable little heart for the middle of all of your flowers and so we can set this aside for now we are going to move on to these sections here or the upright petals i don't know what to call them but I have those pieces ready and so to begin with we are going to snowball using our accent fabrics one on one side and one on the other we do have to do one at a time um because they're going to be a little bit of an overlap so let's go ahead and do this one first and so there are four of these that you'll make in the exact same way there is that and press all right so then just like we did on the heart we are going to add our square to the opposite side making sure that it's going to overlap there at the top and that's going to leave us our quarter inch seam allowance so we're not going to lose that point once we set all of these together okay trim that one off as well leaving our seam allowance there and rolling that back all right then once we have those sewn we are going to add this strip that matches the width of our rectangle across the top here and sew with a quarter inch seam and add this to the top beautiful and while we're here I'm going to use these little squares of my contrasting color from this block and we are going to go ahead and snowball the opposite side here by laying these right sides together and we're going to sew point to point this way and then point to point this way we'll pivot here okay now we can trim this off and give it one final press and then this portion of the block will be complete there we go set these seams beautiful and roll these back make sure it's going to lay nice and flat there we go and so you're going to repeat that exact same thing four times you have four identical units and then we can set these aside and we just need to finish up with our corners and so you'll notice here these petals are kind of at an angle and then they're bordered by that background print that we chose so I have this square here and we are going to place our squares on opposite corners and we're going to sew point to point on both of those pivot around here on the other side as well okay beautiful oops have to trim those off first i was ready to press there's one and the other okay i just love how quickly these beautiful blocks come together they're so simple to make all right so then once we have these snowalled we can go ahead and border the block and we'll do that by adding this smaller strip to the top and then once I sew this I'll just finger press this and add this one to the other side okay so we'll just finger press this back so this side's laying nice and flat for me and we'll add these together here make sure I'm all lined up i always like to take a few stitches at the beginning and then make sure my ends are matching and then I can just zoom down the side there we go all right then we can press this and our corners are complete so satisfying okay so just like the other petals you also have four of these corner units so let's go ahead and lay out our block so that heart is our center focal point and then we are going to add in the pink to match the middle so that those stars kind of burst around just like so and then we can come back with our corner units and we want to make sure that whatever color the petals are is going in towards the center beautiful just like so and so then of course you're going to sew this together in rows it's like a you know a big nine patch essentially and here is your finished block it turns out absolutely beautiful and so let's go ahead and look at the quilt we have three across one two three big blocks by three down i quilted this with rainbow hearts with pink thread which I think is just adorable i absolutely love it and here is our backing which is beautiful as well that pretty floral from the line i just think it turned out so nice so thank you again to Mariana for letting me share this pattern with you i hope you guys enjoyed it and I'll see you next time on at
