Today she's making hexagonal flowers using a Sewline glue pen and hexagonal paper pieces. She has first cut her fabric down to smaller squares. As she makes the hexagons she trims to 1/4" around the hexagonal shape.
Now she's adding a bit of glue to the hexagons to get the fabric to stick. She's taking care not to glue right at the edges, so she still has clean fabric to sew through. She starts on one side and continues folding around on all 6 sides.
Once she has all her hexagons pieced, it's time to sew them together! As you sew the edges together try to grab a tiny piece of fabric (and not the paper). Remember that you can fold the cardboard/paper a bit so that your edges can come together easily.
When all the hexagons are hand sewn together, it's time to remove the papers. Be sure that you're pressing as you remove the papers to keep everything nice and flat. Beth takes special care in pressing the final round so she can easily applique the edges to her quilt block.
A tip for centering items on your quilt block - fold it into quarters and press lines into place that you can use as guides!
Pin Grandmother's Flower in place so you can applique it to the block by hand or by machine.
